An update regarding this incident: The suspect was known to the victim and he is now in police custody. The time of the occurrence has been changed from the original report of 11:30-11:55 a.m. to approx. 1:30 p.m.
In response to the numerous questions whether the trail is safe for hiking: We always strongly encourage that all hikers walk in pairs or groups. Always use caution and be aware of your surroundings. Report suspicious persons to security immediately by dialing "10" from any campus ext. or dialing the emergency line direct: 408-710-7490.
Please do not call the emergency line for anything but urgent calls, we do not want to tie up this line. For business, non-urgent calls, you may call the security office and leave a message at ext. 4703.

GavALERT: A sexual assault has been reported on the Gavilan College Hiking Trail. If you were on the trail between 11:30 a.m. and 11:55 a.m. today, or have any information about this incident, please call the Santa Clara County Sheriff at (408) 686-3658.
