WHO:  The Gavilan College Department of Community and Contract Education, in partnership with W.I.T.S. (World Instructor Training School) invites people considering a career as a Certified Personal Trainer to enroll in a new job training / certification program. High school diploma or GED Required.

WHAT: This challenging course is taught over a 5-week period, with the National Board of Fitness Examiners' test on the 6th week. This course is formatted as a 60-hour program and includes 15 hours of lecture, 15 hours of practical training and a 30-hour internship. It covers biomechanics, exercise physiology, fitness testing, equipment usage and health assessment.

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
• Assess an individuals’ level of fitness using recommended guidelines of the American College of Sports Medicine.
• Design and customize exercise programs for individuals based on their current fitness level, future needs and fitness goals.
• Demonstrate proper execution of weightlifting, stretching and isometric exercises.
• Practice personal fitness training professionally
• Sit for the NBFE (National Board of Fitness Examiners) Exam

This is a beginning level course. No pre-requisites are required. Students must obtain Adult CPR & AED certification in order to receive certification.

WHEN: Classes will be held on Saturdays,  April 9 through May 21, 2011 from 9am-4pm
