GAVILAN COLLEGE - The Gavilan College Certificate in Retail Management is a specially designed program to prepare individuals for the fast-paced retail industry. The courses help students develop an understanding of the retail manager's job and the requirements for success in the retail environment. This program is approved by the Western Association of Food Chains. Grocery industry employees who successfully complete all 10 courses are eligible for receive both the Gavilan College Certificate of Achievement and the WAFC Retail Management Certificate, along with a $$ CASH honorarium!
The program includes ten courses which are offered in a combination of face-to-face and distance learning formats. Topics include: Principles of Marketing, Introduction to Supervision, Techniques of Management, Leadership/Human Relations in Business, Human Resources management, Oral Communications, Business Communications, Business mathematics, Bookkeeping and Accounting, Survey of Microsoft Office Programs.
Two courses in the sequence will be offered this Spring: Introduction to Management and Principles of Marketing. Both will be offered at the Gavilan College campus in Gilroy and are transferable to the California State University system.
Spring classes begin February 3. Students who have not enrolled at Gavilan College in more than two semesters will need to fill out an Application for Admission and take an Assessment Test prior to registering. Fees are only $26 per unit and financial aid is available.
