Gavilan College Student Health Coordinator Alice Dufresne-Reyes is the Gavilan College liaison to the Santa Clara County Health Department. She will be participating in "active surveillance" as directed by the Santa Clara County Health Department to be alert for new cases of Swine Flu. This means that a report will be filed with the Pubic Health Department for any cases of flu-like symptoms identified among Gavilan College staff or students. (So far, there have been no reports from Gavilan College.)
Staff and faculty have been advised to stay home if they experience flu-like symptoms, to seek care from their health providers, and to call Student Health Services to make a report. Students are similarly advised to stay home if they have fever over 100 degrees orally, body aches, sore throat, chills, cough, and to then call Student Health at 408-848-4791 to report the symptoms. If students become ill while in class, faculty have been advised to have them go home, seek medical care, and call in a report to Student Health Services.
In an email to all staff on Monday, Dufresne-Reyes wrote, "It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, e.g. cover your mouth when sneezing and/or coughing, wash your hands frequently, stay healthy, and if not, take time to get well at home. The important factor is not to get it and not to
