Seats open on Gavilan College Measure E Citizen's Oversight Committee

WHO: Volunteers are needed to serve on the Gavilan College Measure E Citizen's Oversight Committee. Seats are open for a senior citizens' representative, and a representative from a taxpayers' group.

WHAT: On March 2, 2004 the voters approved $108 million in general obligation bonds for Gavilan College facilities by passing Measure E. As required by Proposition 39, the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee is charged with ensuring that revenues from Measure E are spent as promised. The committee's role is to review and report on district spending of taxpayers' money for construction and to provide a public accounting of the district's compliance with legal requirements. The committee includes at-large representatives, representation from business, seniors, students, taxpayers, and the Gavilan College Educational Foundation. All meetings of the Citizens' Oversight Committee are open to the public. The committee meets quarterly at the Gavilan College campus in Gilroy.

HOW: For application, and more information about Measure E projects and the Citizen's Oversight Committee, go to www.gavilan.edu/pio/bond.html, or call (408) 848-4711.
