What: Gavilan College Institute for Digital Media Entertainment and Education (IDME) will take place this summer in Studio DM, the State of the Art Digital Media Lab.
Students can learn to:
• Produce a video for DVD, web, classroom, YouTube, or podcast
• Design a website using Dreamweaver & Flash
• Transform old photos into a digital scrapbook
• Unleash music potential with digital technology
• Animate 3D fantasy game
• Create a digital story with photos, videos, & words.
When: Running M-Th, June 16 to July 17, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Who: This institute is an opportunity for people of all ages, whether they be educators, students, or people in the community, to investigate and learn a chosen topic in Digital Media by creating their own masterpiece. Prizes from our sponsors will be given for the best projects!
Free Guest Seminar series June 16th and 17th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, open to the
public. Scheduling is in process, but in the past we've had music and video experts
from Apple Inc., animators from Spielberg's Dreamworks and Sony Pictures, and a
cinematographer who directs commercials for major car companies like Lexus and
Main 4 week session is available to students who register for .5-1 unit of DM 108,
Digital Media Lab. Attendees will write an individual flight plan for their learning
experience and have access to instructors, tutors, on-line video, and suggested readings to
help them complete the production. Digital Media's Studio DM is equipped with Pro
level computers and uses software like Final Cut Pro, Motion/After Effects, Flash,
Photoshop, Logic/GarageBand, Dreamweaver, DVD Studio Pro, SoundTrack Pro, iPhoto,
iMovie, and Maya for 3D animation. Digital Video camcorders can be checked out by
attendees. Participation hours are flexible.
The summer program is sponsored by Apple, Inc., and is focused on project-based learning and professional production techniques.
Cost: To participate in the main session, one must register for DM 108, Digital Media Lab (.5-1 unit) during summer registration or at the Institute. Cost is $27.00 per unit for residents, and $210.00 per unit for out of state residents. For more information, email
