It's How You Play The Game -- Rams Softball recognized by Coast Conference

GAVILAN COLLEGE - Proving that it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game, the Coast Conference has recognized three of the Gavilan College Rams women's softball players for their outstanding play. In addition, Head Coach Nikki Dequin-Thompson was voted by her peers as the 2006 Coast Conference Coach of the Year for women's softball.

The three freshmen student-athletes are Courtney Almaguer, Tiffany McIntosh, and Jessica McClelland. Each was honored by being named to the All Coast Conference-South Second Team. Dequin-Thompson said that her peers were very impressed with the attitude of her team, their determination, and the spirit in which they competed.

"All three of them have played out of position all year, and did well in the positions they were put into," said Dequin-Thompson of the players who were honored. "They kept their spirits up, and played hard. I'm glad the other coaches saw what I did. I think this honor says a lot about these players and their character."

Dequin-Thompson was surprised by her own selection as Coach of the Year. "I did not expect it, but it is nice to see that other people recognize the work and committment this season."

Recruiting is underway for next season. Anyone who would like more information about Gavilan Rams Womens' softball should call (408) 848-4876.
