Renowned sports nutritionist to speak at Gavilan College

WHO: Sports nutritionist William E. Wheeler, Ph.D., ACSM has over 27 years of experience in the nutritional industry with numerous senior author publications as well as three Presidential Awards for Excellence in Research. He has BS & MS degrees in nutrition from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. degree in nutrition from Purdue University. Included among his many notable accomplishments, Dr. Wheeler served both President Jimmy Carter and President Ronald Reagan in the White House as Staff Nutritionist (1976-1981.) He also served as Staff Nutritionist to the 1996 US Olympic Decathlon & 2002 US Olympic Snowboarding Teams. Dr. Wheeler is the recipient of the 2001 Distinguished Professorship in Nutrition from Capital University of Integrated Medicine, Washington D.C. His current and past clients include the Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Wizards, Tampa Bay Lightning, Utah Jazz, & the US Air Force Academy Football Team. Dr. Wheeler is recognized for his broad knowledge of nutrition as well as his adaptability at focusing on specific nutritional needs. Dr. Wheeler is currently the Vice President of Research and Development for Body Wise.

WHAT: Will present a one and a half hour lecture on sports nutrition at Gavilan College. This event is FREE and open to the public. He will talk about fueling the body for optimal athletic performance, and explain the differences between good carbs vs. bad carbs; good proteins vs. bad proteins; good fats vs. bad fats. He will discuss his ideas on weight management and control and share stories about his involvement with professional athletes and U.S. presidents. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.
