Gavilan College Students Win Regional Competition

GILROY, CA - Last weekend three Gavilan College Administration of Justice students won top honors at the annual regional conference of the American Criminal Justice Association/Lambda Alpha Epsilon co-ed fraternity. The conference, hosted by Fresno State University, included attendees from throughout the western United States.

Students competed in academic and tactical areas including; juvenile law, criminal procedures, firearms, physical agility and crime scene investigations. The Gavilan College Administration of Justice students took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the juvenile law examination and 2nd and 3rd place in the criminal procedures examination. The winners were: Claudia Gonzalez (1st place juvenile law), Neal Oppenheimer (2nd place juvenile law and 2nd place criminal procedures), and Jeanne' Church (3rd place juvenile law and 3rd place criminal procedures).
All three students are planning on attending the national American Criminal Justice Association conference this spring in Memphis where they will compete at the national level.

Gavilan College Administration of Justice students founded the Gavilan College chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon last year and are soliciting funds to offset the cost of travel to Memphis. Lambda Alpha Epsilon sponsors academic and social events related to the study of criminal justice and associated professions.
