Citizens Oversight Committee for Measure E to hold first meeting

WHO: At their June meeting, the Gavilan College Board of Trustees appointed a nine-member committee of district residents to serve as the Citizens Oversight Committee for Measure E: Marco Renella, Sandra Fishler, Thomas Andrade, Lawrence Grace, Russ Danielson, Robert "Pi" Silverstein, Christine Alonzo, David DiDenti, and Christopher Montoya.

WHAT: The members of the Measure E Citizens Oversight Committee will convene their first public meeting. This meeting will provide an orientation to the committee, and include discussions of future meeting dates, timelines, and other organizational information.

WHEN: June 28, 6 - 8 p.m.

WHERE: Human Resources Conference room, Gavilan College Gilroy campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

WHY: On March 2, 2004 the voters approved $108 million in general obligation bonds for Gavilan College facilities by passing Measure E. As required by Proposition 39, the Citizens? Bond Oversight Committee is charged with ensuring that revenues from Measure E are spent as promised. Th e committee?s role is to review and report on district spending of taxpayers? money for construction and to provide a public accounting of the district?s compliance with legal requirements.

The committee includes at-large representatives, representation from business, seniors, students, taxpayers, and the Gavilan College Educational Foundation. All meetings of the Citizens' Oversight Committee are open to the public.
