Gavilan College NEWS this week -- March 15, 2013
Career Day 2013 is March 27! This is a major event for our students, because it allows them to gather information on job opportunities and connects them to employers who are hiring. In addition to our employers, we will also be hosting an accredited resume writer and Career Coach who will be offering our students free resume critiques.
Gavilan College Educators, Staff, and Administrators: our esthetics students are now taking clients for facials, waxing, and make-up services. Appointments are available Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays with sessions at 6:00pm and 8:00pm. Appointments (408) 842-5055.
We are having our free, drop-in water aerobics class until the end of the semester starting Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Lap swimming is also available. The class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15pm until 5:10pm in the really warm Gavilan shallow pool. The time cannot be changed since we will be using the pool before the scheduled KIN swim class. If you want to get some sun, fun, exercise, listen to music, and lose weight, then join us. Bring your bathing suit, towel and water shoes (optional).
You may have heard by now that the hiking trail in the hills above Gavilan College has been closed by the property owner. This property is not owned by Gavilan College, and the college was not involved in the decision to close the trail. Please respect the posted wishes of the property owner -- the owner has informed the sheriff's office that they will prosecute violators for trespassing .
We're continuing our workshop offerings with series on APA and MLA documentation, as well as research strategies, Mastering Mechanics, and more. Please let students know about these opportunities in our Writing Center, Library 120, next to the Tutoring Center.
ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION: Gavilan faculty talk about their projects!
Wednesday March 20, 5:15-6:15pm in the Mayock House
Please join Leah Halper, Debbie Klein, and Kimberly Smith for an informal discussion about our exciting research and creative projects, which keep us very busy when we're not teaching! We will each talk about our work briefly and then open the floor for questions and discussion. In addition to talking about our actual projects, we would also be excited to talk about: how it's even possible to carry out such projects while holding down our jobs; where we find inspiration; the writing process, etc. Refreshments will be offered.
Instructor Jane Rekedal was part of a photo-op with the Gilroy Youth Alliance this week at San Ysidro Park, where she has been instrumental in a project to create tiles for an outdoor retaining wall, now underway.
