Our comprehensive visit is just 17 days away! As a college community we have written an extensive self study document, identified our evidence, and are preparing the campus for the arrival of the team on March 4th.While here, the team will review and analyze our institutional self study, hold group and individual meetings, make classroom observations, and review documents. They will also tour the campus and talk with students and staff. CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Call for Proposals and Nominations Now Live for the 2013 CA Higher Education Sustainability Conference! The California Higher Education Sustainability Conference (CHESC), hosted by UC Santa Barbara, invites students, faculty, and key stakeholders from campuses throughout California to submit a proposal to speak, present a poster, or receive a Best Practice Award. We are excited to hear from Private and Independent Colleges, CCC, CSU, and UC campuses. FOOD ASSISTANCE FOR HUNGRY STUDENTS: As part of our efforts to offer our students comprehensive services and address their many needs, we have partnered with CalFRESH to ensure that students have access to nutritious meals. CalFRESH will be visiting our campus the second Wednesday of every month, to introduce their program to our students and enroll eligible families and individuals. Our students cannot be successful if they are hungry. CalFRESH can help students meet their nutritional needs. Please announce these visits in your classroom and encourage students to drop by. INTER-CLUB COUNCIL (ICC): The Gavilan ASB will be hosting the first monthly ICC Meeting of the Spring 2013 semester Next Wednesday February 20th in the N/S Lounge @ 230! We are very excited to get the ball rolling and hear what exciting things all of Gavilans clubs are bringing to the table this semester.
WRITING CENTER WORKSHOPS
We have a full week of Writing Center workshops ahead, with something for all students, including how to format a paper, strategies for getting organized (with free binder supplies), writing personal statements for scholarships, and finding out more about what we offer in the Center. The TRIO Program will no longer be accepting applications for Spring 2013 as of today since we have reached capacity. We will accept new applications for Fall 2013 semester beginning August 6, 2013, with the exception of our Summer Bridge students beginning in late April. Please feel free to continue referring students to our program if they are interested in receiving information regarding the TRIO program, and what services we offer. You can also refer them to our website at www.gavilan.edu/trio for additional information.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE: The Youth Assets Development Committee is a partnership between MHUSD, Discovery Counseling Center, Mt. Madonna YMCA, City of MH, and the MH Chamber of Commerce. It is organizing a Morgan Hill Assets Conference on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the MH Community/Cultural Center. The asset conference is an all-day conference of free informational booths and workshops for the entire Morgan Hill Community to provide information to better understand and empower our youth to help them thrive and grow into successful adults. In addition, the conference committee is accepting nominations for "Asset Champion.... School of the Year, Business of the Year, Youth Service Organization of the Year, and Adult Role Model of the Year."
