Stephanie Austin is
the Director of piano and Vocal Studies, as well as Music Department
Co-Chairperson at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, CA. As part of her
tenure, she has presented advanced pianists in solo recital, competed with
the advanced piano students to win Superior Plus ratings, and founded the
Music Project, which has presented professional pianists in lecture/
recitals. Additionally, she founded the Classical Voice Vocal Jazz, and the
Gospel Choir programs. These groups have performed for the Reno Jazz
Festival, Columbia College Jazz Festival, Diablo Valley College Jazz
Festival, De Anza College Choral Concert, Los Medanos College Choral
Concert, College of San Mateo Choral Festival, as well as campus and
community events.
Austin has been a Conductor, Performer, and Teacher in the Bay Area since
1988. A native of Louisiana, Austin received her Bachelor of Music in piano
Performance from Loyola University. From the Eastman School of Music, in
Rochester, New York, she received her Master of Music in the fields of
Choral Conducting and Music Education. Currently, she is a Doctoral
candidate in Music and Music Education at Teacher's College, Columbia
University in New York.
