Corey Whitehead
Corey Whitehead has performed classical and flamenco guitar in
festivals and on television and radio in the United States, Brazil, Chile,
Italy, France, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Yemen and
has performed on numerous occasions at The John F. Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts, in Washington D.C. His duo "Douze Cordes"
with guitarist Michael Bard has performed in the Middle East, North Africa,
Italy and Chile on three tours as Cultural Ambassadors of the U.S.
Department of State performing for royalty and dignitaries, in festivals,
and on television and radio. In May 2006 he was appointed Assistant
Professor in the area of Guitar Performance, (Classical, Flamenco, Jazz) at
California State University, Fresno. His guitar method book co-authored with
Juan Serrano entitled "The Flamenco/Classical Guitar Tradition"
will be released worldwide on Mel Bay Publications in 2008. Corey’s solo CDs

cdbaby.com. He has previously taught at
The Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C., The Levine School
of Music in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia Community College, Virginia
Commonwealth University, and Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ. He holds
his Doctor of Musical Arts, Masters, and Bachelors Degrees in Guitar
Performance from the University of Arizona where he studied with Thomas
Patterson. He has studied extensively with Juan Serrano and at the Curso
Flamenco XIV in Sanlúcar de Barremeda, Spain with Gerardo Núñez and in
La forma y naturaleza de la guitarra flamenca with Manolo Sanlúcar.
Alberto Marqués
Albert Marqués, winner of many guitar competitions and
the recipient of many accolades will perfom May 17 at Gavilan College.
Known as El Ajito in the flamenco world, Albert was born into a
family where flamenco was a part of life. Albert’s first teacher was his
father. Later he went on to study with legendary guitarist, Mariano Cordoba.
Wanting to pursue his dreams in Flamenco, Marqués moved to Spain in 1989 and
studied with Chicuelo. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1992, Marqués went to
CSU, Fresno to study with yet another world renowned guitarist, Juan
Serrano. In addition, Albert has also played and studied with Spanish
guitarists Juan Manual Canizares, Jose Roldan, Gerardo Nunez and Paco
Fernandez to name a few.
Some of Albert’s most recent
projects include the song, “Piel de Seda” for the movie
soundtrack, It’ll Happen. In January of 2007, Albert was a featured
guitarist for the concert series, Dynamic Guitars, held at the
Historic Hoover Center in San Jose.
