ASSIGNMENT 2: State Facts

In this assignment, we will access two Internet sites with information on the 50 states and capitals in the United States. It may be helpful for you to read through each section of this assignment before going directly to the sites. This way you will know in advance which questions you will be answering.

  1. Read the questions you will be answering before going to the site. (You might want to write them down on scratch paper.)

  2. Next click on the link to the 50 states site.

  3. Then click on the Connecticut folder to answer the questions about this state.

  4. Take notes on the answers, so that when you X out of the 50 states site and return to this assignment page, you will have the answers to the questions.

    Note: When you click on the 50 state link, your browser should open up a new window for the link. To get back to this assignment page, just close the window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the window.

  5. Now, let's actually go to the 50 states site by clicking on its link and follow the steps outlined above. Then return to this assignment page and answer the following questions.

What is Connecticut's state song?

    Let's try another Internet site with state information from Infoplease.com. It is sponsored by the company that publishes the Information Please Almanac which has been providing answers to all kinds of factual questions since 1938—first as a popular radio quiz show, then starting in 1947 as an annual almanac, and since 1998 on the Internet at www.infoplease.com. Read through the steps below. Then click on the Infoplease link

  1. Go to the Infoplease site and select a state which interests you by clicking on the state on the map, using the pull-down menu, or one of the links under "More state info" and find its Admission to Statehood date, its lowest point and one other interesting fact about the state you chose.

  2. Take notes on the answers you find.

  3. Now, let's go to the Infoplease site by clicking on its link and follow the steps outlined above. Then return to this assignment page and answer the following questions.
Which state did you select?
When was it admitted to statehood?
What is its lowest point?
What is one other interesting fact about this state?
