GECA Enrollment
In November, 2008, we will begin accepting applications for fall 2009 new enrollment and spring 2009 transfer enrollment. The following time line will be in effect:
Dr. T J Owens Gilroy Early College Academy Application Dear Candidate and Parents: Thank you for your interest in attending the Dr. T J Owens Gilroy Early College Academy at Gavilan Community College. As a perspective student, it is a diverse and select student body to which you aspire to become a member. If you are accepted into the program, what lies ahead of you is an odyssey of challenging learning opportunities designed to ensure your entry into, and continuing success in, a top tier university or college. During your four years at the Early College Academy, you will take both high school and college courses. Your college courses will earn dual credit for both college and high school. All college textbooks are purchased by GECA and are provided at no charge for your use. All college tuition is waived by Gavilan. (You will be required to submit a Tuition Waiver form each semester). If you work diligently, at the end of four years you will graduate not only with a high school degree, but also potentially with either an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree from Gavilan College. This means that you will have completed and accumulated approximately 60+ fully transferable college level credits, which, in effect, eliminates two full years of your college time and expenses! From a financial perspective, this amounts to a savings of, at a minimum, in excess of $50,000, while putting you on an accelerated track to a career and/or advanced degrees. Finally, we want you to know that, as an Early College Academy student, you will receive the very best of teaching and counseling. Each of the staff members is fully certificated and is genuinely interested in you as a person. We are a tightly knit school community that is, in many respects, a second family. If you are diligent, focused, and aspire to excellence, then the Gilroy Early College Academy is the place for you! Candidates should complete Sections I through III of the application and parents/guardians should complete Sections V through VI. Sections VII and VIII will require information from the student, his/her school counselor, and parents/guardians. In addition, please submit the following with this application: Copy of the student’s academic transcript from his/her current school, including disciplinary records. (If not available, please submit current year grade reports and disciplinary records for the student.) Copies of most current California STAR Test results. (If not available, please submit a statement as to why scores are not available.) Two (2) letters of recommendation – one from a current teacher and one from either a current counselor or administrator. (Not Applicable for home-schooled students.) A competed GECA 2008 Recommendation form (NEW FOR 2008/2009) We look forward to receiving your application packet and to meeting you during the interview process! Best wishes, MaryAnn Boylan All course advisories and prerequisites will be enforced. All Gavilan College students are subject to the college's academic rules, regulations and Standards of Student Conduct. All applicants will complete the Gavilan College application in conjunction with the GECA application. All applicants will complete the High School Contract in conjunction with the GECA application.
