Gavilan College DRC Admission Requirements

The Disability Resource Center (DRC) is administered by the Office of the Vice President of Student Services with the following guidelines for student services:

All students participating in programs and services offered through the DRC are required to complete an intake interview with the DRC Counselor.
Students served by the DRC who have a physical disability must have that disability verified by an appropriate professional and/or physician. Download the DRC Verification of Disability form, and bring the signed form to your counseling appointment.
A student with a learning disability must complete a diagnostic test battery that qualifies the student for LD support services. This battery must be administered by a certified Learning Disability Specialist or meet minimum equivalent standards.
A student with a speech/language disability must have that disability verified by a speech-language pathologist prior to receiving DRC services or enrollment in special speech classes.
A student with a hearing impairment wishing services must have an audiogram indicating hearing loss on file with DRC or other professional certification of degree or level of hearing loss.
All medical and/or disability verification forms must be completed within the first semester of services provided by DRC. In some cases, verification of disability must be provided before services are provided: adaptive physical education, learning strategy group instruction, and reader service for example.
All students admitted to the college who wish to receive services from DRC should possess the ability to comprehend questions, follow directions, and demonstrate the potential to profit from enrollment in the college.
Students must demonstrate annual measurable academic progress. Failure to do so may result in the termination of services.
Individual attendant care is the student's responsibility.
Students are expected to follow the Gavilan College Student Code of Conduct established by the college and to refrain from behaviors which offend or deny the personal rights or safety of others.
When students are unable to attend a class, the responsibility for contacting offices that provide services lies with the individual student. Failure to do so may result in dismissal from class, termination of services, and/or dismissal from the DRC.
All college information or academic materials are available in alternate media upon request at (408) 848-4865.
