The child development discipline offers coursework and degrees
leading to a wide range of careers with children. As our society
requires more parents to work outside the home, the demand will
continue to grow for high-quality dependable child care. Students
who complete the
Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate are prepared
for employment in infant/toddler centers or private preschools.
The School
Age Certificate prepares students for employment
in before- and after-school centers and recreation programs. The
Child Development Permit, which requires 16 additional units in
general education beyond the certificate, allows students to teach
in state- or federally-funded child care and development programs.
A Foster/Family child care certificate professionalizes your family
child care home. |

Students
who see a career in teaching or human services as their goal may
wish to pursue the
Associate in Arts Degree. More rigorous General Education requirements
distinguish the AA degree from the Certificate programs, and students
who complete the transfer degree option are prepared to enter many
universities and colleges with upper division status.
