Units: Hours: 30 Laboratory Transferable: No Prevocational skills for adults with impaired cognitive functioning. Entry level work preparation is emphasized. Skills taught include basic work routine orientation, communication skills, job ability assessment, and self-management skills. Units: Hours: 2 Laboratory Transferable: No Basic mobility orientation for adults with impaired cognitive functioning. The course emphasizes basic community orientation, transportation services, public services, traffic sign identification, pedestrian safety, telephone training, and communication skills. Field trips are required. AE 602 Vocational Training III Units: Hours: 30 Laboratory Transferable: No Practical training and on-the-job work experience for students with disabilities. This course also provides preparation for entry level employment utilizing a number of work alternatives and settings. Units: Hours: 3 Laboratory Transferable: No AE 603 is a job readiness course which provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in service-learning activities and job readiness training leading to job development and placement in a community setting. Units: Hours: 25 Laboratory Transferable: No This course is designed for adults with severe disabilities in community or sheltered employment. The course provides training in the basic life skills necessary for obtaining and maintaining employment. Areas of emphasis include training in health, hygiene, first aid, clothing maintenance, food preparation, money management, mobility orientation, use of public transportation systems and personal and occupational safety. Units: Hours: .5 Lecture, 1 Laboratory Transferable: No This course is designed for students with disabilities. The purpose of this course is to improve the student's ability to participate in the community, by increasing independence through acquisition of survival vocabulary, structured practice in functional reading utilizing phonics and content recognition, and increased enjoyment in reading for pleasure. Opportunities will be provided for oral reading of high interest-low reading level life experience stories written or revised specifically for adults with limited reading skills. AE 610 Independence Training I Units: Hours: 2.5 Lecture, 2.5 Laboratory Transferable: No Training for adults with disabilities in areas of health, hygiene, and first aid. The course provides students with basic adaptive first aid skills and training as well as a basic understanding of health and personal hygiene. AE 611 Independence Training II Units: Hours: 2.5 Lecture, 2.5 Laboratory Transferable: No Adaptive Physical Education and leisure time development for adults with impaired cognitive functioning or other disabilities. AE 612 Independence Training III Units: Hours: 2 Lecture, 2 Laboratory Transferable: No Housekeeping, cooking, basic clothing maintenance, and independent living skills for adults with impaired cognitive functioning. AE 613 Independence Training IV Units: Hours: .5 Lecture, 1 Laboratory Transferable: No This course is designed for students with disabilities. The purpose of this course is to improve the student's ability to build math competencies related to independence in daily living and the work site. The focus of the class is basic computation, consumer awareness, money management, banking and purchasing. AE 614 Independence Training V Units: Hours: 5 Lecture Transferable: No A systematic approach toward increasing self-esteem, incorporating a variety of cognitive, emotive, and behavioral activities for adults with impaired cognitive functioning. AE 636 Adapted Physical Education Units: Hours: 3 Laboratory Advisory: Students must be able to document a physical disability. Transferable: No An individualized program of adapted physical education activities designed to meet the needs of students who are physically limited or disabled. The course assists in the development and appreciation of physical activity as a regular planned contribution to one's overall well-being. This course is for the non-matriculating student, is not graded and is without college credit. |
