Completion of the core courses and the additional requirements in a selected option (on following pages) will qualify students for either an A.S. degree and/or Certificate of Completion in Digital Media.

Program Learning Outcomes: After completing the A. A. degree or Certificate of Completion in Digital Media a student will

  • analyze the relationship of aesthetics, content, user needs, and/or interactivity of projects suitable for implementing using digital media. This will enable them to synthesize a design, produce development guidelines incorporating techniques such as storyboards and flow charts and render their design using good design principles and contemporary digital technology.
  • be able to perform and communicate ideas in a team environment and contribute significant work related to their option area of study.

Digital Media Options

The following six associate’s degrees and/or certificates of completion require a combination of core courses (see previous page) and additional requirements.

Digital Media A.S. Degree Digital Art and Imaging Option

Program Learning Outcome: After completing this degree a student will demonstrate an ability to use Digital Media technology and concepts to design, produce, and integrate aesthetically pleasing 2D/3D visual and animated material for film, video, web pages, CD/DVD, video games, or digital print.

For transfer majors.

Digital Media Certificate of Completion Digital Art and Imaging Option

Program Learning Outcome: After completing this certificate of completion a student will demonstrate an ability to use Digital Media technology concepts to design, produce, and integrate aesthetically pleasing 2D/3D visual and animated material for film, video, web pages, CD/DVD, video games, or digital print.

This certificate will enable a graduate to obtain entry level jobs as a graphic designer/artist for Web, CD ROM, DVD, and digital print.

To receive an Associate of Science degree students must also complete Gavilan College general education requirements.

  • analyze project definitions (including scripts or storyboards) in order to, using digital technology, creatively and logically edit video; design sound and motion graphics for broadcast or to be incorporated into web sites, CD/DVDs, video/film, video games, or cell phones.

Digital Media Certificate of Completion Digital Audio/Video Option

Program Learning Outcomes: After completing this certificate of completion a student will be able to:

  • create and produce time-based visual art and sound.
  • analyze project definitions (including scripts or storyboards) in order to, using digital technology, creatively and logically edit video; design sound and motion graphics for broadcast or to be incorporated into web sites, CD/DVDs, video/film, video games, or cell phones.

This certificate will enable a graduate to obtain entry level jobs as a digital audio/video producer/director, video or sound editor, web streaming media designer/producer.

To receive an Associate of Science degree students must also complete Gavilan College general education requirements.

Digital Media Certificate of Completion Interactive Media and Authoring Option

Program Learning Outcomes: After completing this certificate of completion a student will be able to:

  • analyze requirements and proposals for an interactive project.
  • describe the relationship of content elements and synthesize aesthetic interactive projects such as video games, web sites, CD/DVD, educational multimedia, or interactive TV in line with current theories in human cognition.

This certificate will enable a graduate to obtain entry level jobs as a web designer, web architect, information designer, web master, and CD ROM/DVD or computer game designer.

To receive an Associate of Science degree students must also complete Gavilan College general education requirements.

This certificate of achievement prepares the student for entry-level work preparing images and graphics for print, web, video or other multi-,media publication. Also, it can lead to advanced certificates or degrees in digital Imaging/Graphic Design or Digital Media.

This certificate of achievement prepares students for entry-level work combining images and text for print publication (commonly called Desktop Publishing.) It may lead students to advanced certificates or degrees in desktop publishing, digital print design or graphic design.

This certificate of achievement prepares the student for entry-level work in the TV, video, and film industry as a digital video editor, post production specialist, or multimedia video specialist.

Courses in this certificate can lead the achiever to further study for advanced certificates or degrees in Digital Media or Media Arts - TV Production.
