AMT120: POWERPLANT TECH
This course is part of the curriculum required by the Federal Aviation Administration to obtain certification as an aircraft powerplant maintenance technician. This certificate allows the rated technician to perform maintenance, preventive maintenance repairs and alterations to USA FAA certificated aircraft powerplants. This Section covers the theory and practical application of operation, overhaul practices, inspection, installation, testing and troubleshooting techniques covering the subject areas of reciprocating and turbine engines, ignition, induction, supercharging, cooling and exhaust systems. ADVISORY: Successful completion of AMT 101 and AMT 111. Basic hand tools required. Details at the first class meeting.
- The student is able to explain the facts, and theories that explain¿the natural phenomena, basic principles and construction and operation of aircraft reciprocating and turbine engines and their propulsion systems.
- The student is able to demonstrate the ability to research paper and computer based FAA regulatory and manufacturer maintenance data to create, organize, record and produce aircraft powerplant and propulsion systems maintenance logs, forms and reports.
- The student is able to obtain aircraft powerplant maintenance data through paper and computer based manuals, the student is able to interpret and apply such data to properly maintain and overhaul¿ aircraft powerplants and propulsion systems in a safe airworthy condition.
- The student is able to disassemble, inspect and reassemble aircraft reciprocating engines and associated propulsion systems.
- The student is able to demonstrate the ability explain the theory ¿and maintenance practices of ignition and starting systems for aircraft powerplants.
- The student will be able to identify, list, diagram, disassemble, assemble, analyze and troubleshoot aircraft powerplants, propulsion systems, and ignition and starting systems.
- The student is able to research collect and organize paper and computer based FAA and manufacturer data to properly operate, and troubleshoot aircraft powerplants, propulsion systems, ignition and starting systems.
- 8. The student is able to diagnose reciprocating powerplant problems, identify and analyze, component parts and associated systems to determine the need of replacement or repair.
- The student will acquire the necessary skills to perform his duties of the as a FAA licensed powerplant mechanic.
- The student is able to search and create organized lists from paper and computer based parts manuals to calculate pricing and order parts for aircraft powerplant maintenance.
- The student is able to research parts, maintenance, fuel and oil costs to evaluate and prepare data to create an aircraft powerplant operation cost analysis.
