Title: Communication Instructor
I currently have a full-time career in Education Technology with Pearson, the world’s learning company. I have become the #1 Math & Sciences representative in the west for Pearson North America. Prior to my career in ed. tech I taught public speaking for two years at CSU, Chico and was a judge and coach for Speech and Debate Practicum at CSU, Chico. In the Winter of 2018 I decided to return to teaching part time in conjunction with my current career. I began teaching Interpersonal Communication at SJCC. Exploring the discipline of communication studies alongside my students and peers allows for collective learning which creates new meaning and this is where my passion and happiness lie.
My own experience at community college was transformative and it all began in a public speaking class at SJCC. Community college was a place where I found familiarity in my fellow students and more importantly in the faculty that surrounded me. The aptitude I developed fueled subsequent coursework, but the confidence and sense of belonging was what propelled me forward. In my public speaking class at SJCC I felt heard for the first time and I learned what it meant to listen. My teaching experience, career and academic experience has prepared me for a faculty position where I am capable of serving the Gavilan community in the best way I know how. As an instructor in the communication department I hope to inspire interest and awareness in human communication and help students develop the most essential human skills, how to listen, deliberate and speak.
