Coming Spring 2017...Coyote Valley Center
New center set to open Spring 2017
Construction began on the new 55-acre Gavilan College campus in south San Jose on January 7, 2016 after the governing body unanimously approved the $4.5 million in contracts to begin the process of building the new school. The land was purchased after the $108 million Measure E bond was approved by voters in 2004. When completely finished, a ten-to-thirty year process, depending upon the availability of state funding, the site could be home to a full-service community college accommodating up to 10,000 students.
The campus will be approximately 28,800 square feet and consist of classrooms and specialized facilities for the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium program. About 10 percent of current Gavilan students are in the police academy with training done at the main Gilroy campus. However, Evergreen Valley College, where a majority of the training was handled, is no longer going to offer those services and all peace officer work will soon be based solely at the new Coyote Valley site.
